Wassily Kandinsky

Wassily Kandinsky (December 16, 1866 – December 13, 1944) was a Russian painter, graphic artist, and art theorist who also lived and worked in Germany and France. Along with Franz Marc, he was a co-founder of the editorial group Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), which opened its first exhibition in Munich on December 18, 1911. Kandinsky was an Expressionist artist and one of the pioneers of abstract art. According to his own accounts, he is often cited as the creator of the world’s first abstract painting.
