Maurice Utrillo

Maurice Utrillo (December 26, 1883 in Paris – November 5, 1955 in Dax) was a French painter. He was the son of Suzanne Valadon, herself a renowned painter, and an unknown father. He received his surname from the Catalan painter Miquel Utrillo, who officially acknowledged paternity. His signature Maurice Utrillo V. also references his mother’s surname, who remained a defining influence throughout his life and with whom he shared studios.
